DUDLEY, Mass. Nichols College has been recognized as a 2020-2021 College of Distinction for providing a dynamic undergraduate experience and preparing its graduates for success in the workforce. Nichols was among some 370 colleges and universities nationwide and 14 in Massachusetts to be selected for the Best Colleges of Distinction 2020 list. In addition, the college earned specialized recognition in a field of study (Business) and for exceptional student support services (Career Development).

Colleges of Distinction, which was founded in 2000 as a resource for students, parents, and guidance counselors, evaluates schools on four overarching distinctions – engaged students, great teaching, a vibrant community, and successful outcomes. Curricula for the selected colleges must emphasize competencies such as critical thinking, writing, oral skills, research, and global perspectives, as well as experiential learning opportunities.

“We complete a thorough review of the programs before granting the honors,” said Tyson Schritter, chief operating officer for Colleges of Distinction. “We’re looking for qualities such as accreditation, breadth of program, advising and mentoring, integration of career services, and successful outcomes for students. It’s wonderful to see how Nichols College really exemplifies these qualities.”

The mission of Nichols College is to transform today’s students into tomorrow’s leaders through a dynamic, career-focused business and professional education. Starting in their first year, students are immersed in the study and practice of leadership through the required LEAD 101 course. The signature Professional Development Seminar, a required four-year program, prepares students to confidently market themselves to prospective employers. With a focus on experiential learning, students have access to a range of competitive internships as well as high-impact, hands-on learning experiences embedded in coursework, including consulting projects for local businesses and a student-managed investment fund.

“Nichols College is honored to be recognized as a 2020-2021 College of Distinction,” said President Susan West Engelkemeyer, Ph.D. “As a supportive community, we are dedicated to guiding each student on a path toward discovering their own leadership potential and cultivating the personal and professional skills they need to succeed. This recognition is an endorsement of the Nichols brand and the engaging and vibrant learning environment we have fostered.”
