Nichols College Emerging Leaders Program
At Nichols College, the Emerging Leaders Program is our most intensive leadership opportunity, created for students who want to grow as ethical leaders and take on meaningful responsibilities inside and outside the classroom.
This program connects students to leadership experiences inside and outside of the classroom through workshops, service opportunities and hands-on projects.
Students who join the Emerging Leaders Program gain the advanced leadership skills that employers value most, alongside the confidence to lead teams and contribute to their communities with purpose.
Community Engagement and Service
Emerging Leaders look beyond the Nichols College campus in order to understand their role in society. From volunteer work to service projects, students come to see leadership as a commitment to others, not just a skill set. Community-based work helps students reflect on the ways that leadership impacts society and encourages their growth as responsible leaders who give back.
Advanced Leadership Development
The Emerging Leaders Program builds on the foundations that Nichols College students learn in earlier seminars by introducing deeper, more challenging leadership concepts. Through workshops, case discussions and alumni connections, students learn how to approach leadership with clarity and self-awareness.
Key elements of the program include:
- Scenario-based exercises and ethical decision-making tools
- Guided discussions rooted in real-world leadership challenges to build conflict resolution skills
- Leadership films and speaker sessions that spark reflection
- Project-based and experiential learning tied to professional skills
Networking and Field Experiences
Students in the Emerging Leaders Program have the chance to meet alumni and professionals who share insight into leadership across industries and fields, including nonprofit work, business, public safety, education and more. From field trips to regional companies and leadership events across Central Massachusetts, students expand their professional network, build the confidence to interact with professionals and gain exposure to different leadership styles and workplace expectations. Emerging Leaders also find career building opportunities through Nichols career services as they explore job prep in college.
Career and Personal Growth Outcomes
The Emerging Leaders Program inspires growth in noticeable, practical ways. Students involved become more comfortable speaking in front of others and learn how to articulate their own leadership style and speak to their experiences. As they move through the workshops and projects, they gain a clearer understanding of their strengths and begin to develop the habits that help them succeed in internships and early career roles.
Many students also describe the program as a turning point for their confidence. The combination of hands-on practice and honest feedback helps them see themselves as capable leaders, even in unfamiliar situations. Regardless of the career field they choose, students leave the Emerging Leaders Program with a stronger sense of direction and ability to carry themselves professionally.

ELP has developed me into a better leader from the leadership opportunities at hand on campus and off campus internships. It has truly shaped me into a great leader and overall better person from all of my involvement and experiences through ELP.
