Our Signature Leadership Programs (SLPs) are an important part of our approach to career preparation.

Through structured leadership training, hands-on projects and guided professional development, Nichols students enhance their skills in communicating clearly and collaborating effectively as they grow into confident leaders. Our programs create space for every student, from the most reserved to the most outgoing, to discover their leadership style and potential.

Nichols College prepares students to succeed in a variety of career paths by helping them understand their own strengths and long-term goals. From student career coaching and experiential learning to the career services office, leadership development at Nichols is not left to chance. It’s built purposefully through practice, coaching and experience.

Leadership Training That Grows With You

SLPs at Nichols College follow a developmental model that evolves alongside students as they progress through their education. Each year builds new skills and deeper self-awareness, starting with confidence and communication and moving into ethics, professionalism and career readiness.

Industry speakers, alumni mentors and hands-on seminars reinforce what happens in the classroom, while hands-on projects ensure that students learn leadership skills not just by listening but by doing. Through our SLPs, students strengthen their academic understanding while developing the practical skills that employers expect.

Three-Year Professional Development Seminar

The College’s three-year Professional Development Seminar (PDS) is a cohort-based program designed to build a foundation for career success. Students will learn how to present themselves professionally, manage responsibilities and prepare for future roles.

Focus areas include:

  • Resume writing and cover letters
  • Mock interviews and professional communication
  • Salary and benefits research, negotiation and evaluating/comparing offers
  • Practical job prep that is woven into each course

This seminar is required for all students and is one of the reasons that our graduates show a level of professionalism unmatched by graduates of other colleges.

A Nichols College student holds his diploma at commencement in a procession line

Leadership doesn't have to be a known trait; you can always build your own leadership by finding something that you're passionate about. Put yourself into as many uncomfortable situations, jobs or spots as you possibly can while you're in college because you will find new skills, new friends, and new passions in the process.
