Nichols Captures Best Business School Award

In its inaugural Best of Business award presentations, held on Wednesday, January 29th, the Worcester Business Journal recognized Nichols as the Best College for Business in central Massachusetts.

“Several schools have business programs and business courses,” the WBJ noted in its citation, “But Nichols’ chief focus is business education and helping develop the business leaders of tomorrow.”

The WBJ also pointed to the College’s sixth-place national ranking this past year by for best return on education investment among business schools.

Nichols President Susan West Engelkemeyer accepted the award in front of an audience of almost 300—including a delegation from Nichols—gathered at the Coral Seafood Restaurant in downtown Worcester. She notes that the recognition by the WBJ underscores Nichols’ recently developed vision statement to be the college of choice for business and leadership education.

Nichols was the only school among the 51 award recipients, which spanned a range of top businesses and organizations in the Worcester area, from the Fallon Community Health Plan and Staples to the Worcester Mayor’s Office and Mechanics Hall, the city’s main venue for concerts.

“These are where our students go for internships and employment,” Engelkemeyer observes, “Hopefully they value our connection to them and will notice that we have been recognized by this award.”

Engelkemeyer also points out that the award recipients featured several Nichols alumni, including Mayor Joseph Petty, who have made an impact on the Worcester community and economy.
