One Nichols alumna and Target employee, Executive Team Leader of Human Resources Renee Gardner ’10, and one Nichols senior, Executive in Training for the fall of 2012, Alexa Boucher ’12, discussed internship and job opportunities in the retail industry in Nichols Auditorium on Wednesday, October 5th. On hand was Student Government President Ed Baia ’12 who interned at Target this summer and has already accepted a position as an Executive in Training after graduation in May.
Boucher completed a ten week internship during the summer at a Target store in Worcester, Mass. She worked with a mentor and completed a project — “Driving Profitable Sales in Electronics,” which she presented to Target management on a district level.
“Nichols taught me to be comfortable talking to a whole group of people,” she told the Nichols audience which was comprised of second, third and fourth-year students. For the first two weeks of training, Boucher spent the day with a different member of the Target team and completed the other eight weeks with her mentor, primarily on marketing activities.
Renee Gardner, who graduated from Nichols with a Marketing major and Business Communications minor, told students to take advantage of the Nichols Career Fair, where she first met Target recruiters and completed a series of interviews in the Career Service Office. “Working at Target is hard,” said Gardner, “but I love it, and I am never bored. I always have something to do. I knew I didn’t want to work at a desk all day.”
This close encounter with a real-world company looking to hire was sponsored by the Fischer Institute.
