Major League Baseball won’t be making its annual awards for another month or two, but the Dudley Little League bestowed a plaque on Nichols earlier this month as thanks for the school’s continuing financial support.
Al Salonis, the league’s president, came to campus on September 3rd to present the award to Thomas Cafaro, Nichols vice president for Marketing and International Partnerships. Salonis also received a check from Nichols for $6,300.
Over the course of this year, Cafaro notes, Nichols donated almost $10,000 to the league, which enrolls 235 local girls and boys in more than a half dozen age groups—from five-year-olds learning T-Ball to “Big League” players aged 17 and 18.
One third of that contribution went to supporting nine baseball and softball teams at various levels. The players on those teams appear on the plaque wearing uniforms with the Nichols name emblazoned in green, the school color.
The additional funds from Nichols this year supported other league initiatives, including the purchase of new baseball equipment, a lawn mower, and an electronic scoreboard for the league’s main field.
“It’s part of our commitment to being a good neighbor,” says Cafaro.
