Heather Maietta joins Nichols College as director of career services effective January 2, 2008 and will report directly to Dr. Brian McCoy, vice president and dean for student services, who comments: "I'm delighted that Heather has agreed to take a leadership role in expanding career and internship opportunities for Nichols students."
"I'm here to support President Debra Townsley and Dean McCoy in the College's effort to strategically boost the placement of Nichols graduates," says Maietta. In this capacity, she's already rolled-up her sleeves in 2007 as an adjunct faculty member of Nichols' Professional Development Seminar (PDS) Program and as interim director of career services since late October.
Nichols four-year PDS Program helps students develop career skills that set them apart. In fact, Maietta has researched, published, and presented in the field of career counseling, advising and internships, and is currently researching Nichols PDS Program for her dissertation.
Nichols takes career services very seriously and continuously strives to enhance its outstanding placement record: For Nichols Class of 2006, within 6 months of graduation, 96% were employed with an average salary of $40,000, and one in ten Nichols alums is a CEO, president or business owner.
Maietta has been employed by universities such as Central Michigan, James Madison, and Old Dominion in various positions in the field of career counseling, academic advising, and internship supervision. In the public sector, Maietta has worked in a supervisory capacity in the sports and recreation industry at the local, state, and national levels.
Maietta holds a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University in Outdoor and Environmental Recreation and Policy Studies, a master's from James Madison University in Sports and Recreation Management with a minor in Higher Education Administration, and is currently a doctoral candidate at Central Michigan University for Higher Education Administration and Community Leadership.
Originally from Michigan, Maietta relocated to Massachusetts three years ago and currently resides in Tewksbury, Mass., with her husband Bill and infant daughter Emily.
