Nichols College recognized 114 of its student-athletes for their excellence in academics as well as in athletics on Thursday, April 24 as part of National Student-Athlete Day. - Manning Addresses the Crisis of Debt
"For the Love of Money" by the O'Jays was playing through the loudspeaker system in Davis Hall as Nichols College students arrived to listen to Dr. Robert Manning discuss America's attitudes toward credit and debt as part of the Robert C. Fischer Memorial Symposium on April 21st called "In Debt We Trust." Last month, Institute founder Robert Fischer died after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Over the last three decades of the deregulation of the U.S. banking industry, the banks' best customers have changed from those who pay off their loans to those who are perpetually in debt. America has witnessed an historically unprecedented rise in household debt levels and record low consumer savings rates.
Dr. Manning is Research Professor and Director of the Center for Consumer Financial Services at Rochester Institute of Technology.

- Fels Commuter Scholarship Winner Is the Cat's Meow
'"How do you say "thank you" for a scholarship valued at $16,000?"' asks Alycia Blanchette of Dudley, Mass.

This year, Blanchette is one thirteen students receiving the Gerald and Marilyn Fels Commuter Scholarship for attending Nichols College. "When I got the Nichols' email asking for student volunteers to help at a Webster cat shelter, I thought it was a perfect way to thank the Fels for so generously helping me. "
