Dr. James Fitzgerald of the Student Leadership Training Program |
Susan K. Tellier was recognized as a Massachusetts Unsung Heroine in a ceremony at that State House in Boston on May 14th. She was given the award for her leadership role in launching The START Conference for youth leadership on the Nichols College campus in Dudley, Mass.
Attorney General Martha Coakley, Mass., gave the keynote address, stating that volunteer spirit is basis of civic responsibility and "there's nothing like a dame" when it comes to getting things done.
As Vice President of Administration at Nichols, Tellier has been the driving force in promoting the use of the campus for summer community programs that make a difference. Attending the ceremony was START co-sponsor, Dr. James Fitzgerald of the Student Leadership Training Program.
This year's START Conference, scheduled for June 8-9, 2008, has registered over 100 delegates from high schools throughout New England. Guest speakers from the community include: Fitchburg Mayor Lisa Wong, District Attorney Joe Early Jr., WBZTV Chief Correspondent Ron Sanders, and Massachusetts State Representative Karyn E. Polito.
