Nichols "Tickets for Tots" Makes a Child's Holiday a Little Happier

Some say it's better to give than receive, but what if you could do both? Nichols College's "Tickets for Tots" Program let's students on the Dudley, Mass. campus do both.

The brain child of Director of Public Safety Jack Caufield, "Tickets for Tots" has become an annual and very popular way for students to donate a toy to the Marine's Toys for Tots Program in lieu of paying the fine on a parking ticket. Says Caufield: "We consider a ticket paid-in-full for each unwrapped, non-violent toy donated with a value of $10.00. This year, approximately 50 students took advantage of the program."

The toy drive was campus-wide and included donations from others without parking violations. Student representatives Ron Powers (men's basketball) and Chelsea Blair (women's soccer) of the Nichols Student-Athlete Advisory Council dropped off bags of toys to the Public Safety Office before finals began last week.

All toys will be delivered to 1st Sgt. Odoms of the 25th Marine Regiment at the Worcester Toys for Tots Center.
