Welcome New Patron Services Librarian
Please welcome Rosalba Onofrio, Conant Library's new Patron Services Librarian.
Rosalba joins the staff of the Conant Library after a sixteen year career as a Spanish and Italian teacher at Woodstock Academy (Woodstock, CT). She holds a Master’s degree in Spanish from Boston College and a Master of Library Science from Southern Connecticut State University. Rosalba has been a librarian at the Bracken Memorial Library in Woodstock since 2008. In her free time she enjoys playing scrabble and watching foreign films with her three cats.
Rosalba will be responsible for the hiring, training and supervision of our student workers and will handle all Reserves and laptop/Kindle/webcam loans.
Are you taking a 100 or 200 level class in Management, Marketing, Economics, History, or some other field and are required to buy a textbook that costs more than $80? If so, a copy may be available in the Permanent Reserve Collection in the Library! To see if a copy is available search the Library's online catalog by title or stop by the front Circulation Desk.
Textbooks purchased for this project will be on Permanent Reserve. Reserve books can be borrowed for 2 hours at a time and cannot leave the Library. Student ID is required and will be held until the Reserve item is returned.
The goal of this initiative is to provide students with an alternative to buying expensive study material for their classes. If additional funds can be obtained from SGA we will expand this collection to include 300 and 400 level courses.
For the safety of College Library patrons and the security of the facility, video surveillance cameras are now installed in the library. These cameras are for security purposes only. The video footage will be reviewed only in follow-up response to specific incidents in the library. To ensure that the system is running properly, library staff will be monitoring the system on a regular daily basis. Specific files of footage may be saved as separate image or video files in order to pursue incidents and may be maintained for a longer period of time only as needed for such investigations.
The Library is pleased to announce the winner of the 2009-2010 Library Research Award:
1st Place and a $150 prize: Rebecca Smith (2011) for her paper: "What is Mine is Yours? The effects of Birth Order and Gender on Altruistic Sharing Tendencies among College Students."
We also find great joy in announcing a TIE for second place. In light of receiving no submissions for the Freshman category, the Library has decided to award two submissions 2nd Place.
2nd Place (tie) and a $50 prize: Rachael Silverman (2010) for her paper: "Social Influence in the 21st Century: Has the Effectiveness of Each Technique Changed?"
2nd Place (tie) and a $50 prize: Sara Bailey (2011) and Ji-Young Kim (2011) for their paper: "Telecommuting."
The Library received a number of papers of very high quality and scoring was very tight for all submissions. Each submission was evaluated for its use of library resources and tools, application of critical thought to the use of information, and communication of said information through a paper or project.
Congratulations to the winners as well as to all who submitted such good work! We look forward to next year's submissions!
Judges: Crystal Bickford, Colleen Colles, Jim Douglas, and Matthew Haggard
