Teaching Philosophy / Goals

Teaching Philosophy

My business career began over 34 years ago and has provided me with a broad base of experiences in a variety of industries and organizational settings, in roles as practitioner, consultant, senior management, business founder and teacher. The successes and challenges from these experiences permit me to enhance the concepts presented in class with my own “real world” lessons which students find of great value as they prepare for their own entry into the working world.

I strive to make my teaching approach varied, interesting and relevant to the student and to focus the students on the concepts, management tools and skills they’ll need to meet the challenges of succeeding as both management and Leadership in this new and exciting global marketplace.

Ideally, the best feedback I can ever hope for from my students is to hear that after leaving Nichols College they’ve been successful and then to hear that many of the reasons behind their success are the experiences they’ve had in our classrooms.

Why I Teach

Nichols College provides an environment where academic excellence and industry-proven experience are encouraged, supported and recognized, in a supportive environment.

For myself, it’s been a personally rewarding and professionally challenging experience to be a part of what’s happening here on Dudley Hill. Through the support of the Administration and the encouragement and mentoring of my Faculty colleagues, each succeeding semester has permitted me to learn and grow. Ideally, some of this focus on continuous improvement has been incorporated into my classrooms.

I view this opportunity to teach at Nichols College to be both professionally and personally fulfilling and believe that the best part of a day on campus happens in the classrooms of Davis Hall.

My Goal

My goal at Nichols College remains the same: To challenge my students to bring their “A” game to class and be ready to educate, provoke, encourage and support them in their Nichols College learning experience. When my students are learning and growing, I’m pleased. Their success is my business.

Art and his wife Susan have been married for over thirty one years. When he’s not on campus, they enjoy kayaking, bicycling, hiking and camping.
