Internships
Go beyond the classroom with an internship. You can intern with an employer, still learning, but working too.
An internship is a limited, intensive learning experience where you put your learning to practice in a work environment, but under the supervision of both a professor and an employer.
You can do this at the same time you take classes, or during a semester break or semester away. Your academic advisor will help you each step of the way.
At Nichols, many students take advantage of internship opportunities. You are placed in a supervised, work-based learning situation with employers for planned learning activities. Internships give you a broad overview of occupational fields while providing opportunities to experience work responsibilities to develop work-readiness skills. Internships can be integrated with your regular school schedule, take place during a semester away from school or during summer break.
Nichols College strongly believes in the cooperative learning experience where you apply the knowledge you have gained in the classroom to an internship position within your major or field of interest. This philosophy has prompted the College to develop an internship program that allows students the opportunity to gain on-the-job experience with corporations in different industries.
Nichols College offers academic internships for college credit and non-credit general/experiential internships; both of which can be paid or unpaid.

THE ROBERT C. FISCHER POLICY & CULTURAL INSTITUTE
Regent's College, London, England
Nichols offers a junior or senior year, study abroad semester in cooperation with Regent's College, London, England. Regent's College is situated in a lovely, historic setting amid the ornamental gardens of Regent's Park in the heart of London. A British institution founded on the initiative of Rockford College, Illinois, Regent's has an international mission that sets it apart from most colleges and universities. As a British-American center of international education, Regent's College draws upon the academic traditions and resources of both countries. Its university level programs are taught by British and American teachers and accredited in the United States.
Regent's College occupies 11 acres within the 487-acre Regent's Park just across from Queen Mary's Rose Garden in central London. The campus offers conference and seminar rooms, a fully equipped auditorium, an art exhibit gallery, library, student residence hall, shop and bank, as well as tennis courts and gardens.
Nichols' agreement with Regent's College permits Nichols students to study overseas with all academic coursework taken at Regent's transferring directly to Nichols.
The standards used in considering Nichols students for nomination for admission to Regent's includes:
• The candidate must be in good academic standing at Nichols with an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher. (Students with grade point averages of 2.75 to 2.99 will be considered on a space available basis only.)
• The candidate must have earned junior-level status (normally 60 credit-hours or more) prior to the semester in which the student will study abroad.
• The candidate will be required to provide a well-written personal statement explaining why an overseas study experience will be of educational benefit, and will be expected to undertake a full academic program at Regent's consisting of 12 to 15 semester hours of coursework.
• The candidate must be recommended favorably by two members of the faculty and the Dean of Student Services. When there is a large number of applicants, nomination decisions will be based on academic year, academic achievement, and overall merit.
Nichols students interested in the Regent's program should contact Len Harmon, Director of the Robert C. Fischer Policy & Cultural Institute, who will counsel Nichols students in regard to program details, requirements and course selection. Nichols College will bill students directly for Regent's College tuition, room, and board. Upon receipt of payment (normally July 15th for the fall semester and December 15th for the spring semester) Nichols will forward payment directly to Regent's College.
Washington, D.C., Semester
Nichols College is affiliated with The Washington Center, a nationally recognized internship placement agency located in the nation's capital. While the Washington Semester is taken normally during the junior or senior year, summer session internship opportunities are also available. Placements are made with executive branch agencies, the Congress of the Federal Government, local government, non-for-profit organizations' national headquarters, and private corporations.
A full-semester, 15-credit internship is available to all juniors and seniors who have a 3.0 cumulative GPA, regardless of academic major. Students interested in applying should contact Len Harmon, Director of the Robert C. Fischer Policy and Cultural Institute.
