Federal Work Study is a program co-sponsored by the federal government and the college. After a student applies for financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), some students will be awarded Federal Work Study as one of the items on their award notice. Only full-time day students are eligible to participate in the Nichols College student employment programs.
Work Study is an opportunity for employment, not a requirement. Students who wish to take advantage of the work-study program are encouraged to apply for jobs on campus. You are not guaranteed any position, nor are you guaranteed to retain your position after hire.
In many cases, your position will last for one full academic year. Your eligibility for work-study will be determined annually as you re-apply for financial aid. Once your work-study allotment has been exhausted, please speak to your supervisor to determine if you can continue to work for that department. The department supervisor will most likely continue to employ you if he/she is able to fund all of your remaining wages.
Please stop by the Financial Aid Office to pick up your pink work-study packet. Once you have been hired, you will need to present this packet to your supervisor. You will then present it to the Payroll Office along with your form(s) of identification.
If you do not qualify for work-study, you may still be able to work on campus. Some positions on campus are classified as non-Work-Study, to which anyone can apply.
Make sure to visit the jobs board posted in the Office of Career Services to see current, open positions on campus. The Jobs Board lists both Work-Study and non-Work-Study positions.
