Being a good neighbor is serious business. Nichols students perform hundreds of hours in community service every year, including:
- hauling garbage out of the French River
- planting 1,200 daffodils to spruce up the "Hill"
- donating bottle recyling money to the Worcester County Food Bank
- visiting Shiners Hospitals for Children
- contributing toys to the Marines Toys for Tots Foundation
- participating each semester in a Red Cross blood drive
- mentoring kids
We are proud of our community service awards! In 2006, Nichols Athletes and Dudley elementary school received a UniverCity Partnership Award for excellence in fostering a monthly Bison Reading Program that helps 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders build a connection between reading and athletics.
We are innovators in youth leadership education in New England! In June 2007, 90- 9th grade representatives from 86 high schools in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island, completed the Nichols co-sponsored youth leadership conference called Students Taking Active Responsibility (START). It was a two-day on campus residential experience where each student received meals, lodging and materials and then, completed exercises in identity building, team building, situational leadership, ethics, and goal setting.
And we are committed to equal access to higher education! Each year, our Kids to College program helps sixth-grade students from the Town of Webster understand that higher education is something everyone can achieve- if you plan ahead.
