Nichols College reserves the right to contact any student’s parents/legal guardians when the administration deems it necessary to protect the student from imminent physical or psychological danger.
A student with a mental, emotional or psychological condition may be asked to withdraw voluntarily or may be withdrawn involuntarily from the College. This involves an administrative judgment by the Dean of Students, Director of Student Health Services, and the Director of Mental Health Services. The student may be asked or required to withdraw because he/she:
The Student Services Office will within three days of involuntary withdrawal hold a hearing and subsequent investigation into the student’s ability to continue at Nichols College and supply a written statement as the reasons for their concerns.Parents, or other appropriate persons (i.e. faculty, roommates etc.), may be contacted either by the student or the Student Services Office for information and may participate in an informal meeting. The hearing determines whether the student may continue classes or withdraw until a statement of physical and emotional well-being has been provided by a qualified professional to the Student Services Office, and upon the recommendation of the Director of Mental Health Services.Students hospitalized for psychiatric care must submit (prior to resuming classes and/or on-campus residence) a note to the Student Services Office from their psychiatrists/psychologists indicating that they are emotionally capable of resuming academic course work and, if applicable, the responsibilities of on-campus residency.
