About Parent Orientation:
Here at Nichols College, we understand that the transition to college can be a difficult one – not only for the students, but for the families as well. To help make things easier for everyone involved, a special one-day program has been designed for parents. You will have a choice of attending one of three sessions: Session A: June 20th, Session B: June 23rd, Session C: June 26th or Session D (Transfer Session): July 21st. We encourage you to review the Student Orientation information to see how the parent and student program dates differ.
In order to accommodate for all families we ask that you limit participation in the family program to three individuals. The nature of the program is not conducive to children and child-care services will not be available. Seating will be limited to parents and students only.
Please be advised that this is not the same program as our Admissions Open Houses. Parent Orientation is also vastly different from the student orientation program. Parents and students will be separated during the check-in process and will not attend any of the sessions together during the course of the day.
Lunch will be provided at the Parent Orientation program.
Tentative Schedule:
Parent Orientation check-in will take place on the lawn of Shamie Hall from 8 am – 8:45 am. The Parent Orientation program will begin promptly at 9:00 am in Davis Hall and will end no later than 4:00 pm.
Topics will include:
Expectations: students, parents, faculty, and staff
How parents can help their student prepare for college
Current students’ perspectives on campus life at Nichols College
Perceptions and reality of alcohol and other drug use on campus
Information regarding academic policies and advising
Issues regarding housing and residence life
