Interested in applying history to the present day?

 

Nichols History Program helps you develop your skills in written and oral communications and historical research and analysis.

Through our program, you will gain an appreciation of U.S. history, as well as the history of other peoples and cultures, enhancing your multicultural understanding in the workplace and society.

Such knowledge is invaluable in preparing you for graduate studies in fields, such as:

  • law
  • education
  • business
  • public service

In addition, you have the option to enroll in the Educator Preparation Program and apply for a license to teach history in the middle and secondary school levels.

A liberal arts student majoring in history is required to complete 121 credit hours (approximately 40 courses).

In addition to completing courses from our foundation courses, focused choices and electives, history majors complete the following specialization courses:

  • United States History to 1877
  • United State History from 1877
  • World Civilizations II
  • United States History Since 1945
  • World History Since 1945
  • Seminar in History

Four (4) additional courses are required from the following:

  • Constitution and American Democratic Tradition
  • Women in American Society
  • History of Modern Europe Since 1815
  • Political and Historical Leaders
  • American Economic History
  • Civil War
  • the American West
  • Science, Technology and the World Economy
  • America and Vietnam

Note that history majors enrolled in the Educator Preparation Program, follow a different set of course requirements.
