The mission of the history program is threefold:

  • to contribute to the liberal education of all Nichols College students;
  • to train students in historical research and thinking;
  • to prepare students for graduate studies in such fields as law, education, business, and public service.

Liberal studies combine core curriculum courses with selected upper level offerings producing graduates who are: capable or critical, logical, scientific thinking; appreciative of the aesthetic and ethical aspects of life; and dedicated to lifelong learning.

In addition, history students can enroll in the Education Preparation Program to prepare for a license to teach history at the middle school and secondary school levels.
