I serve as the Head of the Music Department and Professor of Music at The Mississippi State University in Starkville, Mississippi. As a native Georgian, I hold undergraduate degrees from Emmanuel College and Berry College and the Masters and Doctorate in Music Education from The University of Georgia.
Prior to service at The Mississippi State University, I held the positions of Chair of the Division of Fine Arts at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana and Director of Bands at Augusta State University and Truett-McConnell College and served as principal trumpet in the Augusta Symphony Orchestra.
I conduct the Mississippi State University Jazz Ensemble and have performed widely across the United States and Caribbean as a conductor, trumpet soloist, adjudicator, and clinician.
My publications include The Instrumentalist, the International Trumpet Guild Journal, Teaching Music, Faculty Dialogue, and Decision.
I live in Starkville with my wife, Karen and two sons, Michael and Andy. I am an avid gardener and outdoorsman.
