Glacier mass balance is assessed in crevasses such as this on Easton Glacier.

North Cascade Glacier Climate Project 2011 Field Season from Mauri Pelto on Vimeo. 2011 Field Season : The actual winter season up to April 1 was fairly average. The ensuing three months were the coldest and wettest April-June period on record. The result by early July extraordinary snowpack. The snowpack on the glacier and trails leading to the glaciers was second only to the record winter snowfall year of 1999 over our 28 years of annual observations. The mass balance of North Cascade glaciers will be strongly positive in 2011 regardless of September weather conditions. ![]() ![]() Lyman Glacier taken from same location in 1921 and 2005. ![]() Loss of glacier volume since 1984, 20-40% of entire glacier volume. |
