Nichols College Campus Drug Policy

Use, possession or distribution of narcotic or dangerous drugs as defined by state and federal laws is expressly forbidden. The College's goal is a drug-free campus where the physical and mental health of the student enables him or her to reach their full potential for human growth and development.

To that end, Residence Life staff and Public Safety personnel are responsible for reporting evidence of such activity to the proper authorities for appropriate action. Students involved in drug use are strongly urged to seek confidential, professional help through the Health Services counselor.

In disciplinary cases involving drug use or abuse, a first violation will result in:

  • Residential Probation or social Probation (if a commuter) status for a minimum period of one semester
  • a fine of $250
  • An online knowledge based drug program (including a knowledge test) or some other type of educational sanction as deemed appropriate.

A second violation of the College's Campus Drug Abuse Policy will result in:

  • Disciplinary Probation
  • loss of residency for one full semester and Commuter students will only be permitted to be on campus for educational purposes
  • a fine of $350
  • Assessment regarding alcohol use and individualized education or small group education as deemed necessary
  • May be mandated to an external community resource and required to sign a release in relation to verifying participation in assessment and/or counseling and/or day or educational program

At the discretion of the College Hearing Officer, a Screening Process or Assessment may be recommended to any student who has violated the College Drug Policy. Students who could benefit from additional individual attention may be asked to participate in individual counseling sessions at the Nichols Counseling Center or an appropriate facility.

In instances where a student is found responsible for distribution of narcotics or dangerous drugs as defined by state and local laws, immediate expulsion from the College is mandated.

Note: Parent(s) and/or Legal Guardian(s) will be notified of all drug offenses.
