What is Residence Hall Damage ???

Damage and/or vandalism to College property not considered normal wear & tear.

Residence Hall Rooms, Common Areas and the immediate area outside each residence hall.

 

 

 

 

 

Wondering why you are responsible for Residence Hall Damage? Assignment to a residence hall at Nichols includes an agreement to be jointly responsible, with other residents, for the protection of the hall, its furnishings and equipment, and to SHARE in the payment of damages sustained.

In essence it is also YOUR responsibility, as a member of the Nichols College community, to put an end to unnecessary damage in your community.

Each month, damage billing totals will be posted in your community. This list will divide the current charges by floor or wing and will denote charges billed to the entire community. The deadline for contesting charges (see section So how do I save money) will also be posted. Once the deadline has passed, the Office of Residence Life will bill individual student accounts through the Business Office.

Two Types of Damage ...

Assigned Damage
A student and his/her guest admit to damage of College Property and take full responsibility for all charges incurred from that damage.
A College Official observes a students and/or guest damaging College property.
Unassigned Damage
Individual(s) responsible are not known or reported.
The cost of all damages are shared among residents of the floor and/or entire building.
Reminders ....
  • The College will continue to offer a $1000 reward for any information leading to the prosecution of anyone responsible for pulling a false alarm in our community. False alarms pose a serious danger to all those involved, including the other residents of the building and the fire safety personnel rushing to campus to ensure your safety.
  • The fire doors are there for your safety. Take the time to use your key or use a door that has a lock mechanism. Please do not prop them. Besides creating a security risk by opening your home to unwanted guests, this may cause unnecessary and unexpected damage to the door mechanisms and there is a fine associated with propping doors that was initiated by SGA and is enforced by our office.
