Lenovo PC Recovery

This section pertains only to students who have purchased the Nichols College recommended Lenovo system.

Is your system extremely slow? Do you have lots of viruses and/or spyware that you cannot seem to get rid of? Does your system not boot into Windows well? Lenovo has a great built-in feature called "Rescue and Recovery". Provided the issue is not due to hard drive failure, Rescue and Recovery will ERASE all existing files (including spyware and viruses) and restore the hard drive back to its original manufacturer's image.

To perform Rescue and Recovery, do the following:

  1. BACKUP any files you would like to keep to a CD or USB memory key. Rescue and Recovery will ERASE all files during this process. Files you should backup include but are not limited to:
    • Word documents
    • Excel spreadsheets
    • PowerPoint projects
    • Pictures
    • Music
  2. Restart the computer
  3. Which blue button does your system have on the top left of your keyboard?  Follow instructions for your particular system:
    • Blue ACCESS IBM button:  When the screen appears with "To interrupt normal start", press the blue ACCESS IBM button.  At the "Startup Interrupt Menu" screen, press F11.  Continue to Step 4.
    • Blue THINKVANTAGE button:  When the screen appears with "To interrupt normal start", press the blue THINKVANTAGE button.  Continue to Step 4.
  4. Follow the prompts to continue the Rescue and Recovery process
