Registration Information

 

PREPARE YOUR SCHEDULE

Use the Fall 2010 class schedule listing on the Web and work with your advisor to select your courses. Make an APPOINTMENT with your advisor prior to registration. Individual faculty advisors and professional advisors will post a sign-up sheet on his/her office door by Thursday, March 25.

Before registering for courses, make sure you have read and understand the following information located on the Nichols Registration Information homepage, as follows:

  • eAdvising - an online course planning tool (Course Planning FAQs)
  • Summer Course Schedule (schedule TBA) will be available to register for Starting April 11. Tuition payment is due at the time of registration. Current day students are only permitted to register for CR01, CR02 and CR03 sections of online on demand courses.

  • Honors Scholar Program (TBA)
  • Final Examination Schedule (TBA)
  • Suggested Course Sequence - What semester is a certain course offered? What year should I take certain courses? Do I need a pre-requisite to take this course? Click here for the answers.
  • Completed Registration Worksheet with Synonym (5 digit code listed in parenthesis in the section name and title column) for each course and lab with potential alternatives. Day students may only register for classes that have a section number from 01-90. The section number is the last two digits of the course number. Ex: ACCT-238-02
  • Your Program Evaluation - Select the "WebAdvisor" link at the top of this page, and login using your user id and password. If you lost your password, click on the "Main Menu" link and click on the "What's my password" link on the bottom right of screen. Click on Student tab and then on the Program Evaluation link under the Academic Profile section on the right.

WHERE TO REGISTER

You may register at any computer with Internet access.
If you do not have access to the Internet, you may use the computers in the Nichols College Library or in Alumni Hall in the Cyber Cafe. (During Hours of Operation for each Facility)

WHEN TO REGISTER

Online registration, using WebAdvisor, will take place Sunday, Aprill 11. You will register using the schedule below based on the number of credits you have completed.

You may continue to register after your scheduled time but not before it.

Any holds you have should be taken care of prior to registration. Staff members from Academic Advising, Business Office, Financial Aid, Registrar and Student Services (Nurse) will be available in the Library Auditorium from 7:45AM to 11:30AM on Sunday, April 11 to help you if you experience any problems with registration.

Students may view the number of credit hours completed by viewing their transcript on WebAdvisor.

ADDITIONAL NOTES FROM THE OFFICE OF THE REGISTRAR

  • The normal course load for full-time Day students is 14-17 credit-hours. No first year student may exceed that limit. Sophomores whose GPA is 3.0 or above, Juniors whose GPA is 2.7 or above and Seniors with a 2.4 GPA or above may petition to take more than the 17 credit-hour limit. Petition Forms are available online or in the Registrar’s Office. The petition form must be signed by the student's Advisor and the Academic Dean and returned to the Registrar's Office for processing. Students with approved petitions for more than 19 credits will be charged the prevailing tuition overload fee starting with the 20th credit hour.
  • Nichols College classifies registered students by credits earned.

    First Year Student     0-26 completed credit hours
    Sophomore Year 27-56 completed credit hours
    Junior Year 57-86 completed credit hours
    Senior Year 87 or more completed credit hours
     
  • First Year students may NOT take evening or online courses during the Fall & Spring semesters. Sophomores whose GPA is 3.0 or above, Juniors whose GPA is 2.7 or above and Seniors with a 2.4 GPA may request to take one evening OR online course per semester during the Fall & Spring semesters. These courses may ONLY be added during add/drop in the Office of the Registrar from 1:00pm – 3:00pm. The Academic Dean or one of the Associate Deans will be in the Registrar’s Office during this time to approve or deny your request. Day students may NOT take MGMT 485 Strategic Management online.
  • First Year students & Seniors, please remember to register for Professional Development Seminar (SEM 139 & SEM 439) during the Fall semester. Sophomores & Juniors, please remember to register for Professional Development Seminar (SEM 239 & SEM 339) during the Spring semester.
  • Day students may only take ONE SEM 115 (Current Issues Symposium) course to fulfill degree requirements. This should be done during your first year at Nichols.
  • Day Division students planning to take COURSES FOR TRANSFER CREDIT from any other school must supply course description information to the Registrar's Office. Prior to the semester start written permission must be received from the Registrar of Nichols College in order for credit to be transferred back to Nichols. Complete instructions are available in the Office of the Registrar and at this link: Academic Forms  then click on "Course Transfer Process."
  • The ultimate responsibility for fulfilling graduation requirements rests with you, the individual student. Do not hesitate to contact the Registrar to discuss your record.
  • If you are NOT RETURNING for the upcoming semester, please go to one of the following departments: Academic Advising (KC Poplawski, Susan Wayman), Business Office (Lisa Campbell); Student Services (Pat Allen), Financial Aid (Jennifer Scherber, Pat Motyka) or the Office of the Registrar (Betin Robichaud, Pauline Borden) to officially withdraw from the College.
  • "W" or "Writing Intensive" courses are those in which written assignments are an important part of the class format. Students may take as many "W" courses as they wish. However, students are required to take at least two "W" courses prior to graduation, normally one in their specialization/major and another one outside their specialization/major.
  • Internship forms are available in the Office of Career Services.
  • You may continue to change your schedule online until 
    Monday, August 2, 2010. After that date you may only change your schedule during add/drop (Monday, August 31 thru Friday, September 4) by coming to the Registrar's Office.


TROUBLESHOOTING

  • Make sure that you are registering during your scheduled time.
    Online registration using WebAdvisor, will take place Sunday, April 11. You will register using the schedule above based on the number of credits you have completed.
  • If you receive a HOLD message, you cannot register until you clear the hold with the appropriate office. If you receive a Business Office hold please go to the Business Office. If you receive a Registrar's hold, please go to the Registrar's Office. If you receive a Health Services hold, please go to the Nurse's Office. If you receive a Residence Life hold please go to the Residence Life Office.
  • Prerequisite Problem - If you receive a message that states "Course # prerequisites have not been started," please select another course. If you think you have received this message in error please go to the Registrar's Office.
  • Closed Courses - If you see "Course # is closed--enrollment is not allowed," you must select another course because the course is full. If you need a specific course to graduate or you need to register for a course in your major that is closed, please go to the Registrar's Office.  
  • No Waitlist - Nichols College does not offer a Waitlist option.  While WebAdvisor makes it appear that this function is available, Nichols College does not use it.  Students should continually check WebAdvisor to see if seats have become available.  Students are constantly changing their schedules and seats become available regularly.  If you have a special circumstance, please see the Registrar’s Office.
  • Change Schedule - If you need to change a course or if you make a mistake and wish to drop a course go to your schedule. Check the course you wish to drop. After you submit the change, a message will appear telling you that you successfully dropped the course.
  • Time Conflict - If you register for two courses that meet at the same time you will receive the following message: "Course # conflicts with Course #."
  • Course Repeat - If you need to repeat a course that you have taken previously, you may do so. The most recent grade earned will become the official grade, regardless if it is higher OR lower than the previous grade.
  • Overload Problem - If you receive the message "Registration in Course # puts student in overload," then a petition is required.

  • Day students cannot register for a Fall or Spring Evening or Online course until add/drop week. If you try, you will receive this message: "Day cannot register for Evening. Evening cannot register for Day."

  • The Registrar's Office will see students with special circumstances. For example, if a course required for your major is closed and you need to complete it to graduate, go to the Registrar's Office immediately. If there is a prerequisite problem on a course that you think is incorrect, please stop by the Registrar's Office. Also, if you are taking an independent study or internship please fill out the appropriate form with all accompanying signatures and bring it to the Registrar's Office by the end of add/drop.
