The Professional Development Seminar (PDS) program was created at Nichols College to ensure that the end of the college experience is as promising as the beginning. The college recognized a need to teach students the professional skills required in the workforce, but not included in the typical college curriculum. Faculty and staff custom-designed a program that cultivates “real life” skills needed in the professional arena while supporting the college mission "...to develop tomorrow's leaders through a dynamic, career focused business education." The PDS program prepares each Nichols undergraduate student to achieve success in his/her professional life. The PDS program is a sequence of four one-credit required courses designed to meet the unique developmental needs of our students from freshman through senior year.
Listed below are several ways for employers to get involved with students at Nichols College.
Professional Development Seminar (PDS):
The PDS program at Nichols College provides hands on experience in career development, resume preparation, interviewing skills, presentation skills and many other facets of developing the "whole student" for success in the business world. If you are interested in speaking in a PDS class, please contact Maureen Butler at 508.213.2388 or maureen.butler@nichols.edu for more information.
Student-Choice Programs:
A component of the Professional Development Seminar is the Student Choice Programs. During the month of October students must participate in 4 of the numerous programs that are offered. Some topics include Powerful Resumes & Cover Letters, Options After Graduation, Etiquette Dinner, Young Alumni Panel, Mock Interviews, etc. The purpose of these presentations is to give the senior students an opportunity to learn about topics they are interested in, but just as important, it is an opportunity for the seniors to meet some recruiters and alumni who may have an impact on their future career plans. It is also an opportunity for recruiters to meet our seniors and share the opportunities available at their companies. Your participation in this program is welcomed. For more information on how to get involved with this component of the PDS program, please contact Maureen Butler at 508.213.2388 or maureen.butler@nichols.edu.
Mock Interviews:
Mock interviews at Nichols show students what to do -- and what not to do -- during the crucial steps of the interview process. Each job interview includes a job description, practice interviewer questions, practice interviewee questions, and answer tips. To set up a date for a mock interview and provide feedback to students so they can excel in the interview process, please contact Maureen Butler 508.213.2388 or maureen.butler@nichols.edu.
