PSY375 - Course Policies

There are 2 rules for success in this course.
Rule #1: Do not get behind  & Rule # 2: Remember rule #1

  • COURSE TECHNOLOGY ADVANTAGES: Computer Software:
SPSS Student version. SPSS 14.0 for windows:
Possession of statistical analysis skills will give you an edge in today's job market. SPSS brings affordable, professional statistical analysis and modeling tools to your own PC. Based on the professional version of one of the world's leading desktop statistical software packages, SPSS 14.0 for Windows Student Version includes an easy-to-use interface and comprehensive on-line help that enables you to learn statistics, not software.
  • MATERIALS NEEDED:
Your own copy of Text & the SPSS 14.0 software, a calculator to be used each class (simple is better, nothing fancy, make sure it is able to calculate a square root). Graph paper for your homework assignments. This will save you many mistakes by keeping you organized! An active Nichols College email account.
  • CLASS SESSIONS:
You are expected to have completed the assigned reading and attempt all homework problems before each class. Class sessions will consist of lecture with student participation and application of sample problems. *Please bring your calculator and textbook to each class, otherwise you will be marked "unprepared."
  • ATTENDANCE POLICY:
I expect commitment from my students, and minimal evidence of commitment is attendance. Attendance is of critical importance because the application projects require class participation & data collection. Therefore, an absence affects the class as well as the person who misses the class. You may miss 4 classes without an excuse. *Please note that all assignment deadlines still apply. After four absences you must meet with me to review you course progress and whether you should withdraw from this course. *Note: Arriving late (after the roll is called) or leaving early (before the instructor dismisses the class) counts as ¼ of an absence. Roll is taken each class.
  • ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:
All work must be original and produced (i.e., typed, formatted, researched and submitted by the same person). Additionally, plagiarism or other forms of academic dishonesty will result in full disciplinary action as outlined in your Student Handbook (Pp. 53-54). Documentation of the incident will be placed on file with the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
  • LATE SUBMISSION POLICY:
All assignments turned in after the beginning of the class they are due will be graded one grade lower. For example, if an assignment is turned in after class, the highest grade the assignment can earn is a "B", the next day a "C", after two days a "D". After three days, no credit will be given unless appropriate documentation is provided. The last day to earn any credit for submitting the Term Project is 12/9/07.
  • HOW DO I GET ADDITIONAL HELP?
I can be reached during my office hours or by e-mail. I realize that everyone progress at their own pace. With this in mind, if you need additional help, please ask for it as soon as you feel you need it. Additionally, if you want me to meet outside of class with your study or collaborative learning groups, I will be glad to meet with you.
  • TUTORING:
The Academic Resource Center (ARC). The Center is located on the 2nd floor of Conant Library hours are Sunday 6:00 - 9:00, Monday - Thursday 9:00-9:00 and Friday 9:00-3:00 Stop in for an appointment or call. • INDIVIDUAL ACCOMMODATIONS AND STUDY GROUPS:
