Fossil Fuel Resources
![]() |
Fossil fuels provide over 80% of our nation's energy needs. Coal is a fossil fuel that the United States has an abundant supply of, while our oil and natural gas supplies are limited. The world as a whole has been expanding its use of these fossil fuels, which in turns leads to more carbon dioxide emission and global warming. The fossil fuel supply is substantial enough so that it will not run out before it can cause carbon dioxide levels to rise dramatically, or curtail our usage for supply reasons alone in the next twenty years.
Readings: 314-334 Concept Questions: 1. How can we burn coal more cleanly? Coal 2. Who are the big five in terms of coal resources, oil resources and natural gas resources (three lists one for each)? 3. How is each fossil fuel formed? Assignment: How long will fossil fuel supplies last? Take into account current reserves, current production and current increases in production. |
