Teaching Philosophy / Goals

My teaching philosophy sees the teacher as the facilitator. As a teacher, I like to provide students with materials and concepts in a course, and then set up projects and experiences where they can apply what they learn. In the HR program, students have a major hands-on project in every course that gives them experience in applying, for example, motivation theory, compensation practices, or recruitment strategies. Students can become active in the HR Club, network with HR professionals in the HR Advisory Board, gain experience through their HR internship, and explore significant new trends in HR through their capstone research project. I believe that offering a variety of experiential venues will permit every student the opportunity to become involved in, and excited by, their learning.

Interests

As both professor and associate dean, my educational interests revolve around ensuring an exciting, relevant, and stimulating environment for Nichols students. At present, my focus is providing international travel opportunities.  Recently, I have accompanied students to South Africa, Amsterdam, Rome, and soon, China.

I received my doctorate in political science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and a Certificate in Human Resource Management from Bentley College.  I worked for seven years in Human Resources for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts before coming to Nichols.  I am excited to share my perspective on human resource management with business students and to encourage young people to be innovative, thoughtful people managers in their professional lives.
