COURSE OBJECTIVES

This is the capstone course in Human Resource Management. It is designed to allow you to utilize the knowledge and concepts you have learned in your previous coursework towards the completion of a major capstone research project.  You will develop important, practical research skills, and become well acquainted with the professional literature and other available resource information in the field of HR.  Mastering the processes involved with gathering, synthesizing, and presenting relevant information is a critical business skill in this information age.

In the HR business world you are about to enter, a variety of unique problems and issues constantly confront the HR manager and are typically addressed in group discussions.  Effective team players know how to think critically and creatively and are valued for their contributions in strategic sessions.  To prepare you for this, the course will explore case studies designed to apply your management skills and increase the sophistication with which you approach HR problems.

To develop your management and leadership skills, you will also be involved in a project that will culminate in organizing a piece of “HR Week” on campus in March.  The class will be responsible for developing, marketing and coordinating a campus event designed to communicate the significance of HR.

This seminar is an opportunity to really get involved at a professional level in the field of HR.  I look forward to lively discussions, intense research, and the blossoming of confident, energetic HR professionals.
