I encourage a relaxed atmosphere in the classroom. It is my experience that students are much more willing to appreciate the power of mathematics if the instructor is willing to concede that the subject matter can be a little formal sometimes. I learned very early on that I need to present material in a very careful and well thought out manner in order to appeal to various types of learners. It is not enough to just present the topics as they occur within the text and do a few examples. I want my students to come to every class because I present the material so clearly that they cannot afford to miss my class. I love asking a question out loud and hearing a cacophony of voices attempting to answer simultaneously. My job as a teacher is to engage my students.
My research area is algebraic number theory. I specifically work with Artin L-functions and higher order leading term conjectures such as Popescu's conjecture.
