All of our tutors are working on or have completed their CRLA Certification at one of the levels listed below. This certification ensures that all tutors are trained in the most effective methods of tutoring academic skills and academic preparation.
We're proud to announce that in September 2006, the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) awarded the ARC at Nichols College its 5-year International Tutoring Certification. The accomplishment reflects the hard work and consistent efforts of the student tutors as well as the professional staff.
Certification may occur at three individual levels including:
For Level 1 (Regular)
* 10 hours training - completion of the tutoring
course with a B or better
* 25 hours of one-to-one tutoring
* Approval of the director
For Level II (Advanced)
* An additional 10 hours of training
(for a total of 20 hours)
* An additional 25 hours of one-to-one tutoring
(for a total of 50 hours)
* Attendance of 1 tutor-related conference
* Approval of the director
For Level III (Master)
* An additional 10 hours of training
(for a total of 30 hours)
* An additional 25 hours of one-to-one tutoring
(for a total of 75 hours)
* Tutoring research and conference
presentation
* Approval of the director
Training hours will be awarded to individuals attending conferences and presenting at conferences. It is important to note that tutoring evaluations, attention to office hours, and additional contributions to the center do factor into the certification process.
