An Invitation to Commencement

From Debra M. Townsley, Ph. D., President of Nichols College

February 26, 2010

Dear Parents and the Nichols College Graduating Class of 2010:

Commencement Weekend is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, May 7 and 8, 2010, and is a momentous time in the life of a college student.  My purpose in sending this letter is to personally invite you to participate in these activities here on the Nichols campus.

The Baccalaureate Service is a very special and inspirational time for the graduates.  It is scheduled for 5:30 pm on Friday, May 7th and will be held under a tent on the Softball Field.  (Please reference the campus map on the Commencement web site.)  A reception for the Class of 2010 and their guests will immediately follow the service in a tent next to the Baccalaureate tent.  Light hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will be served.

Each graduate will receive five (5) Commencement invitations in their campus mailboxes.  These invitations are meant only as a means for graduates to invite guests.  They will not be collected or considered a reservation for seating on Commencement Day.  Seating will be first come first served, and there is no limit to the number of guests graduates may invite.  The actual conferring of degrees, the Commencement Exercises, will take place under a tent on the Softball Field on Saturday, May 8th at 10:30 am

Please note that there will be access to the field for the handicapped by way of Lot M, which is adjacent to the Softball Field and will be reserved for handicap parking.  Additional parking for students and their guests may be found in Lots N, E, A, B, C, and D.  (See map.)  If you or any of your guests have a disability and require special accommodations for seating, please contact Andrea Becker in the Office for Academic Affairs at 508-213-2201.

We ask that you please allow sufficient time to park and traverse to both events.  For Commencement, in particular, parking will be limited and some spaces are quite a distance from the Softball Field.  We will be providing shuttle service across campus, so please keep a lookout for designated pickup locations.  There will be a drop off station for students in front of Daniels Auditorium.

Immediately following Commencement, light refreshments will be served in a reception tent beside the Commencement tent on the softball.  Family and guests of the graduates are all cordially invited to attend.

I look forward to seeing you during Commencement Weekend 2010!

Sincerely,

Debra M. Townsley, Ph.D.
President
