The Nichols College women’s basketball team posted a late rally to defeat St. Joseph’s College of Maine, 58-48, and win the inaugural Key Largo Classic Sunday afternoon at Coral Shores High School. The Bison, winners of eight-straight games, were led by a game-high 20 points and 14 rebounds from sophomore forward Jessica Nelson (No. Providence, R.I.), who was named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Nichols College men’s ice hockey team defeated Amherst, 3-2, in the second day of play to win the St. Michael’s College Holiday Classic Sunday afternoon. Senior defenseman Cole Ruwe (Pekin, Ill.) was named the tournament Most Valuable Player and sophomore forward Will Munson (Corona, Calif.) earned All-Tournament honors as the Bison improve to 13-1-0 overall on the year.

The Nichols College women’s ice hockey team edged Chatham, 1-0, for its first varsity win in program history Saturday afternoon at the St. Michael’s College Holiday Classic, sponsored by the Windjammer Restaurant. Mandy Manopla (Wellington, Fla.) scored the game-winning goal midway through the third period, and was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Will Munson (Corona, Calif.), and Matt Sayer (Lowell, Mass.) had a goal and assist each to lead the Bison to a 12-1-0 record, while the Purple Knights fall to 1-6-0 on the season.

The Colby College women’s hockey team defeated Nichols, 4-0, in the opening round of the Saint Michael’s College Holiday Classic, sponsored by the Windjammer Restaurant, at Cairns Arena Friday evening. The Bison drop to 0-9-0 on the season, while the Mules improve to 4-1-1. First-year netminder Christine Mazza (Dedham, Mass.) turned aside 36 shots for Nichols.

The Williams College men’s basketball team held on to a large first-half lead to defeat Nichols College, 108-78, in the opening round of the Salem State Christmas Tournament Monday afternoon. The Bison, who were led by 16 points from junior guard Chris Paquin (Barre, Mass.) fall to 4-6 on the season and will face Denison University (2-7) in the consolation game Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Senior forward Ryan Gervais (Chicago, Ill.) netted a hat trick and added an assist to lead the Nichols College men’s hockey team to an 8-5 victory over Southern New Hampshire University in ECAC Northeast Hockey League action Sunday night at June Rockwell Levy Rink. The Bison used four power-play and three short-handed goals and twice came back from a two-goal deficit to improve to 11-1-0 overall and 8-0-0 in league play. The Penmen dip to 4-4-0 overall and 4-2 in ECAC Northeast action.

Led by a game-high 19 points from junior forward Mark Alexander, the Clark University men’s basketball team defeated Nichols, 77-70, Saturday afternoon. Nichols received 43 points from its bench, led by first-year forward Pete Atkins (Gainesville, Fla.), who paced the Bison with 15 points and added a team-high matching seven rebounds.
