I have been an active attorney in Rhode Island, a sole practitioner for more than 20 years. I hold memberships in the bar of the Rhode Island Supreme Court and the United States District Court as well as the United States Courts of Appeals for the First and Second Circuits. My practice has been devoted primarily to civil, business and criminal litigation, with a particularly strong emphasis on appellate cases and appellate procedure. I have been involved in defending many white-collar cases including several cases arising out the Rhode Island Credit Union banking crisis. I have authored legal briefs in approximately seventy reported cases in various state and federal appellate courts, and. served as co-counsel in the landmark case of United States of America vs. Vincent A. Cianci, Jr, (the former Mayor of Providence) in the United States District Court in Rhode Island. Many of the appeals he has handled encompassed issues in "white collar" criminal law, evidence, business and constitutional law. Indeed, some of the decisions rendered in those cases have been the subject of law review case notes in the Suffolk University Law Review and the Federal Rules of Evidence Reporter.
My education background includes a B.A. (magna cum laude) from Boston University in European and American History where I was elected in my junior year to Phi Beta Kappa. I then received a Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School. Recently I attained a Masters Degree in Intellectual Property Law from Franklin Pierce Law Center. As part of my studies at Franklin Pierce Law Center, I took courses relating to Treaties and Compacts in international Intellectual Property Law and telecommunications law. Finally I was fortunate to complete a full Certificate Program in the Practice of Management under the supervision of Professor Barrett Hazeltine at the Brown University Learning Community.
I am a bit of a political news aficionado fostered by having been a legislative assistant in Washington in the early 1980's. I love to read history of any sort, and enjoy a variety of literature. I am an amateur astronomer and can be found on many clear nights probing the treasures of the night sky. I cannot wait for our historic observatory to be restored - hint.
I currently serve as an adjunct Instructor at Nichols College teaching various legal courses including Business Law I, Business, Government and Regulation and Effective Speaking. I have also lectured on World Civilization I and II and Introduction to Political Science. I also currently teach Negotiation and Conflict Management in the graduate program These courses are delivered through in class lecture and online modes.
