Teaching Philosophy/Goals

Out of High School I enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, therefore I put off college until late in my career.  I really enjoyed my Coast Guard life and rose quickly through the enlisted ranks.  I then set my sights on securing a commission as an officer through the Coast Guard's Officer Candidate School.  I obtained by bachelors degree from The University of the State of New York, through non-traditional (distance education means).  The primary reason for obtaining by bachelors degree was to gain selection to OCS, but I really enjoyed the learning process.  I was admitted to OCS, and then worked on my Master's degree in business administration.  I was awarded my MBA from Regis University through their distance education program.  One of my many Coast Guard assignments was as an instructor teaching Port Security, Law Enforcement, and Hazardous Material Response.  Teaching became a passion, and I sought opportunities to instruct when ever possible.  Nichols College gave me the opportunity to continue teaching as an adjunct instructor in both the CJM and MGMT divisions.  The Coast Guard provided excellent opportunities for me, I spent nearly 25 years performing Law enforcement, Search and Rescue, Port Security and many other missions.  I also gained a great deal of experience in leadership and management.  I commanded two ships and a 10 person deployable law enforcement team.  I have now retired from active duty after 29 years, and am working full time as a civilian government employee with the Coast Guard.  My responsibilities include coordinating Coast Guard and other federal, state, local and tribal efforts in Combating Maritime Terrorism.  This includes national plans such as the National Infrastructure Protection Plan, and the National Implementation Plan for the Global War on Terror amongst others.

Interests

I am an avid wood worker, who searches flea markets and antique stores for just the right piece of furniture to refinish.  I also enjoy playing golf and archery.
