Teaching Philosophy:
My teaching philosophy is grounded in my belief that learning is continuous; learning is reciprocal, and learning is best accomplished in a setting in which diverse views are welcome and encouraged. I love to teach from a reality perspective and I believe that adults learn best when they can connect information and concepts to real life experiences. Therefore I try my best to integrate experiential learning into the coursework. I also believe that every student brings a wealth of knowledge to the learning arena and I work hard to encourage students to tap into their own unique experiences and to discover new things about themselves and the world they live and work in as they embark on new learning. When learning is relevant, growth is more likely to result. I hold that learning has to be interdisciplinary and transformational.
Interests:
My professional life is a blend of over 25 years of business experience in a variety of industries including academia (staff and faculty perspective); Information Technology, High Technology, IT Advising, Health Insurance, and most recently Transportation. My foundation is in Human Resource Management and Organizational Development with a focus on Change Management, Cultural Integration, and Transformational Management. Consequently, my interests are many and they are very, very diverse. This is due to the fact that I consider myself to be a life-time, inter-disciplinary learner. The idea of ceasing to learn and grow is just not an option for me. My teaching experience includes graduate courses in Organizational Behavior, Human Resource Management, Management, Research Methods, Leadership, HR Management Systems, Organizational Diversity, Managing Change, and Organizational Leadership, Culture and Diversity. I have published articles in the field.
Personally, I love life and I am always looking for new experiences. I love diversity of thought and I always welcome new and different viewpoints and ideas. Professionally I love researching, benchmarking best practices, analyzing case studies and documenting new ideas. I like to interact with people and I find that on-line interaction can be fascinating in that the strength of character comes through even though face to face interaction has not occurred. I love music, dancing, cooking, traveling and just about any activity that prompts me to laugh and feel inner peace and joy. Family is an essential. I live on Cape Cod so the ocean is an important part of my life.
