Teaching Philosophy/Goals
I have been teaching part-time for Nichols College since 2005. I am an independent consultant with a practice that specializes in helping organizations address global security issues. My client list includes several Fortune 500 companies and many other smaller organizations. Previously, I served as an FBI Agent investigating international drug cartels, violent street gangs and domestic terrorist organizations.
I am board certified in security management as a Certified Protection Professional and I am also a Certified Fraud Examiner. I graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Accounting in 1985 and received my Master of Arts degree (with graduate honors) from Webster University in 2004.
My teaching philosophy relies heavily on application of theory to real-world situations. I believe that my background and experience allows me to take what we learn in my classes and illustrate the key points through the use of case studies and other simulations.
Interests
When I'm not working my interests include running and exercising, traveling and watching sports. I also enjoy spending time with my two teenage children, Nick and Rachel and I'm very involved with my church. Teaching has also been a lifelong interest of mine. I really enjoy the interaction with the students and look forward to meeting new students in every class. I enjoy reading the perspective that students provide for the issues we discuss and view myself as a mentor for my students in helping them to understand how security and risk affect organizations.
