Types of In-Person Tutoring
Drop-in Tutoring
You may visit the ARC at any time; however, because our appointment tutoring is the most popular, you may be asked to wait or return to the Center at a later time if all tutors on duty are already working with another student.
Appointment Tutoring
You may call ext. 2200 or stop into the ARC anytime to make an appointment. You may make as many appointments as you wish within the subject matter of your choice. We do request, however, if you need to cancel an appointment, to call so that someone else may receive your timeslot. If we find that you cancel multiple sessions, you may be asked to use only drop-in tutoring. We also cannot guarantee that you will receive the same tutor each time you make an appointment.
Block Tutoring
Block tutoring allows you to sign up for a "block" of three tutoring sessions in order to:
1) prepare for a specific exam
2) revise a specific paper
3) try tutoring to see if it is helpful for your needs
At the conclusion of the three sessions, you may then revert to appointment tutoring, reserve another block (based on the availability of your tutor), or switch into weekly tutoring.
Weekly Tutoring
You may sign up for the same tutor, for the same subject, on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. This allows the tutor to monitor your progress, follow your syllabus, and offer feedback and response to you on a regular basis. This form of tutoring is reserved for the individual with significant difficulty in a specific subject area. Furthermore, if you miss two sessions without sufficient notification, you will be dropped from the weekly tutoring program and asked to enter into either a block or appointment format.
