Lead 101: Learning to Lead

learn the skill businesses say they need most: leadership

At Nichols, our focus is on developing tomorrow’s leaders. That’s why you’ll get actual coursework—and real support—that prepares you to lead. And it all starts the moment you set foot on campus.

As part of the first-year experience, every student will take LEAD 101: Learning to Lead. It’s a class that will help you develop your own leadership style, and it serves as the foundation for further development of your leadership skills throughout your time at Nichols and beyond.

In this course, you’ll discover many facets of leadership across the curriculum and across disciplines. Then, in a motivational setting, you’ll be encouraged to find your own personal leadership style, and ultimately, identify the leader within.

You’ll approach your leadership studies through intensive, hands-on learning and practice. You’ll work in teams with your classmates to solve leadership problems using the case study methodology. You’ll directly apply yourself in leadership opportunities. And you’ll hear from successful guest leaders in a variety of fields in our Lead 101 Guest Speaker Series, and more.

This course also serves as a prerequisite for more advanced leadership courses within our business core curriculum, including MGMT 227: Leading and Managing Organizations and LEAD 400: Managing Strategic Initiatives.
