Dr. Khanal developed a passion for teaching as a graduate teaching assistant at University of Missouri Kansas City. There she taught principles of macroeconomics, principles of microeconomics and intermediate macroeconomics. After finishing her PhD in 2014 she spent a year teaching at Arkansas State University where she taught principles of macroeconomics, microeconomics, intermediate macroeconomics and public finance.

Dr. Khanal teaches the following courses:

  • Principles of Microeconomics
  • Principles of Macroeconomics
  •  Principles of Finance

Research Interests

Her research approach follows a mix of qualitative and quantitative methods based on historical and institutional foundations. She follows an inter-disciplinary approach to research which requires going outside economics and finance narrowly conceived, and drawing on literature emanating from sociology, history, political science, anthropology etc. Her primary research interests are in the fields of:

  • International trade and finance
  • Emerging economies
  • Public finance
  • Money and banking
  • Development finance
  • Financialization of economic systems
  • Institutional economics
  • Political economy

She has presented papers at various national and international conferences and some of her research papers, book reviews, abstracts and op-ed articles have been published in:
