Thinking about teaching in high school or middle school? At Nichols, we'll thoroughly prepare you for the rapidly changing world of secondary education. We're committed to providing the best practical, real-world training for middle and secondary (grades 5-12) teachers in:

  • Business
  • English
  • History
  • Mathematics

Nichols graduates are innovative, conscientious and collaborative. They're transforming the lives of their students and the communities in which they work.

Our program covers four key areas vital to today's education environment:

Classroom Experience

Through partnerships with local schools, you'll observe, analyze and practice teaching throughout your program. When you graduate, you'll have the experience and knowledge necessary to teach standards-based curricula in today's challenging classroom environment.

Team Teaching

You'll work collaboratively with teachers in local middle schools and high schools, as well as with your peers. From designing curriculum units together to observing and supporting each other's growth, you can expect to study in the same team-centered work environment that you'll encounter when you graduate.

You'll be prepared to:

  • Work with fellow teachers across subject areas so that students can study topics in depth from multiple perspectives
  • Plan and brainstorm to spark creativity and innovation in the classroom
  • Team with special services aides, assistants and teachers in inclusive classrooms
  • Support the growth of everyone's professional skills through peer observation

Technology

We all live and work in an information society. That means teachers must use technology and integrate it into classroom experiences. As a student in the Education Program, you'll learn and practice how to use computer technology to enhance learning at the middle and high school levels.

Portfolio Development

Throughout your education classes, you'll create a teaching portfolio. This portfolio is a personal representation of the skills, knowledge and judgment that teaching requires - and that you have developed. This is an excellent way for you to illustrate your own progress and demonstrate the unique interests and talents that you bring to teaching.
